Would you like to join the Heritage Youth Chorus on their 2020 fireside tour as a member of the Extended Choir? We are inviting Latter-day Saint youth from across the country (and across the globe!) to join us on our 2020 fireside tour.
Following a rigorous audition and interview process, youth will be selected to join the choir on the 2020 Heritage Youth Chorus New England tour departing on June 10, 2020. Selected singers will learn the fireside music (with the aid of sheet music, practice tracks, live rehearsal streams, and formative assessments) and will gather in American Fork, Utah on June 9th for final rehearsals and a pre-tour fireside.
In addition to presenting firesides for Latter-day Saint stakes in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, the choir will visit Palmyra, New York to commemorate 200 years since the First Vision and Plymouth Landing to commemorate 400 years since the Pilgrim Crossing.
The HYC Extended Choir is open to youth who will be between the ages of 14-18 in 2020 and who live at least 50 miles away from American Fork, UT. Youth who would like to participate in the Extended Choir must do the following:
Be available to tour with the choir June 10-20, 2020 (and attend required rehearsals on June 9th)
Be willing to pay $1200 for the tour. This cost is all-inclusive of airfare, transportation, lodging, activities, and food.
Be willing to purchase matching attire for tour and for performances: $66 for T-shirts and jacket and about $150 for performance attire.
Be willing to live the AHS Honor Code, which includes standards for dating, dress and appearance, entertainment and media, language, and other areas.
Submit an online application formby November 1, 2019. (Deadline Extended to November 15th!) You will be required to upload an audition video and a letter of recommendation. The video should include 1) the applicant singing a favorite hymn or primary song (accompanied or unaccompanied) and 2) the applicant singing an ascending scale — from the lowest note in their range to the highest note in their range — on the syllable “la”. This letter of recommendation can be from an ecclesiastical leader, a teacher, or another adult who has worked closely with the applicant for an extended period of time.
Applicants who are selected as potential Extended Choir members will be contacted by December 1 to schedule a Skype interview with the Youth Chorus Director and the Tour Director. Those selected to join the Extended Choir will then be asked to submit
