Heritage Youth Chorus Touring Choir
Would you like to join the Heritage Youth Chorus on their 2019 fireside tour as a member of the Touring Choir? We are inviting LDS youth from across the country (and across the globe!) to join us on our tenth anniversary tour.
Following a rigorous audition and interview process, 45 youth will be selected to join the choir on the Heritage Youth Chorus Midwestern United States tour departing in June of 2019. Selected singers will learn the fireside music (with the aid of sheet music, practice tracks, live rehearsal streams, and formative assessments) and will gather in American Fork, Utah on the evening of June 19th for final rehearsals and a pre-tour fireside.
In addition to presenting firesides for LDS stakes in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, and Ohio, the Touring Choir will visit many LDS historical sites including Nauvoo, Kirtland, Liberty Jail, and Adam-ondi-ahman. The choir will also have a special visit to Carthage Jail on the 175th anniversary of the martyrdom of the prophet Joseph Smith.
The HYC Touring Choir is open to youth who will be between the ages of 14-18 on June 21 and who live at least 50 miles away from American Fork, UT. Youth who would like to participate in the Touring Choir must do the following:
Be available to tour with the choir June 21-July 1, 2019 (and attend required rehearsals on June 19th and 20th.)
Be willing to pay $1200 for the tour. This cost is all-inclusive of airfare, transportation, lodging, activities, and food.
Be willing to purchase matching attire for tour and for performances: $66 for T-shirts and jacket and about $80-$110 for performance attire.
Be willing to live the AHS Honor Code, which includes standards for dating, dress and appearance, entertainment and media, language, and other areas.
Submit an online application form by December 1, 2018(application deadline extended to January 15th.) You will be required to upload an audition video and a letter of recommendation. The video should include 1) the applicant singing a favorite hymn or primary song (accompanied or unaccompanied) and 2) the applicant singing an ascending scale — from the lowest note in their range to the highest note in their range — on the syllable “la”. This letter of recommendation can be from an ecclesiastical leader, a teacher, or another adult who has worked closely with the applicant for an extended period of time.
Applicants who are selected as potential Touring Choir members will be contacted by December 19 to schedule a Skype interview with the Youth Chorus Director and the Tour Director. Those selected to join the Touring Choir will then be asked to submit
