Advanced full symphony orchestra led by director Kayson Brown. Instrumentation includes strings, winds, brass, and percussion. Students perform the masterworks of the classical repertory as well as sacred and patriotic music. Philharmonic students should read music including all clefs and transpositions common to their instrument, be proficient in every technique common to their instrument, and display maturity required to accommodate the rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule. Students are expected to study with a private teacher, support their school ensembles, and practice daily. Students must be in 9th-12th grade to apply. Named “Best Youth Performing Ensemble” by Best of State Utah for the past 7 consecutive years, the Lyceum Philharmonic is one of the nation’s premiere youth orchestras and regularly performs and records with nationally recognized guest artists.
