Why do you love AHS? – I love the spirit of sacrifice. I have been involved with American Heritage School since my oldest child started kindergarten in 1999. It has been amazing to watch the school grow and change. I have seen pennies donated by a child to help build a campus, high school students working to pay their own tuition, as well as countless hours of service from cleaning to running events. I am constantly humbled by the generosity of families who donate financially as well.
What have you learned at AHS? – I have learned the power of teaching with the spirit. From planning a math lesson, to computer skills, to reading activities, I have become aware of how much the Lord cares about each of His students, and being receptive to that spirit can bring success regardless of the subject being taught.
Favorite Student Interaction – I don’t know that I could choose just one student interaction. I love the newness of the first day of school, the journey of discovery, and the celebrations of learning. I love to watch a student’s eyes light up when they learn something new. I have also been blessed to see my students grow in to amazing adults who influence the world for good.
Why Teaching? – Since I was a little girl I have loved teaching and learning. When I was nine years old I created a neighborhood summer school complete with handwritten textbooks. My life was influenced by the love and dedication of many wonderful elementary, middle, and high school teachers. I have loved trying to emulate their lives in my teaching.
Family – I was born and raised in Orem, Utah. I love living in Utah Valley. I have seven siblings who are my best friends. I have six children and love being a wife and mother.
Favorite Vacation Spot? – My family loves spending summer weekends on the lake. We have enjoyed camping in the Utah mountains and swimming in Lake Powell.
What life experience prepared you to teach at AHS? – I was born with a strong testimony of the Savior. Through my life, that testimony has carried me through some difficult times. When I found American Heritage School, I realized that this was the perfect place to share my love of teaching and learning as well as my testimony.
