Choosing

Our students develop a scripture-based understanding of their agency and the natural link between choices and the consequences that follow. This theme is routinely repeated throughout the K-12 experience. Students come to see themselves as empowered sons and daughters of God as opposed to reactive creatures limited by the circumstances that surround them.

“Endowed with agency, we are agents, and we primarily are to act and not merely be acted upon—especially as we ‘seek learning … by study and also by faith’”

– Elder David A. Bednar

MORAL SELF-GOVERNMENT

As described in our mission statement, students at American Heritage School develop the ability to “reason and discern between right and wrong, truth and error.” Samuel Adams, the Father of the American Revolution, advocated education systems in which children are taught the “art of self-government” in context of Christianity and the foundational connection between Christian self-government and liberty. Curriculum, policies, and methods at American Heritage School are intentionally designed to inspire students to govern themselves according to correct principles. This kind of “self-governmental thinking” is a hallmark of our unique character-based approach, and is critical to the development of a student’s clear and strong sense of morality, and its personal application to the student’s life.

THE FOUNDATION OF THRIVING INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES

“Freedom is not the right to do what we want, but what we ought. Let us have faith that right makes might and in that faith let us; to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.”

– Abraham Lincoln

Liberty is the summative core value at American Heritage because it is the natural result of proper development of Character and Scholarship.  Our students come to know and experience that a commitment to Christian character, combined with disciplined, enthusiastic scholarship, are key ingredients to success for themselves and for those whom they will serve.
