The theme for this course comes from Mosiah 3:19 which says, “For the natural man is an enemy to god.” Man’s struggle with sin and his need for a Savior is a universal theme that applies to every child of God in every dispensation. This is a theme that permeates the scriptures and the literature we will read. The literature pieces we will study have been chosen because their characters provide contrasting examples of the consequences we receive when we choose to follow the Savior and when we choose to follow the natural man. Through researching, reasoning, relating and recording your experiences in this class, you will come to understand that all mankind has inherited the effects of the Fall from Adam and Eve. In our fallen state, we are acted upon by opposition and temptation. The only way for us to be saved is through the beautiful blessing of the Atonement. From the beginning, the Savior has been our only hope for “peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come” (D & C 59:23). All classes at American Heritage School are taught using the Principle Approach of researching, reasoning, relating and recording. Your experiences in this distance learning class will mirror the classroom experience. Students are expected to be honest in recording the completion of their assignments and recording insights in their notebooks. Students will be given the opportunity to choose their essay topics so that their unique personality and spirit will be cultivated.
