I work with struggling students within the classroom to help them focus and learn how to be successful in the classroom environment. Those students who find it difficult to make sense of what's expected of them, understanding instructions, and how to organize and make best use of their time are the ones I work best with. Since I have dealt with disabilities myself and have completed college, I understand how to help them overcome their difficulties. I understand their thinking, slow processing, anxiety, their sense of feeling overwhelmed, and sometimes lack of motivation. Assisting them in the classroom eases their anxiety so they can focus better, helps keep them on task, helps organize their work and make better use of their classroom time to minimize homework, and also allows opportunity to further explain concepts that are missed or misunderstood at the time the assignment is given. Students feel more confident and leading to more diligence on their part in doing tasks. The end result is less time after school with re-teaching missed concepts and frustration of parents trying to figure out what the assignment entailed. The goal is for the student to eventually understand how to be successful in the classroom independently.
