Elizabeth Marsh began her cello studies at age two and has studied with Richard Hoyt, Carey and Elliott Cheney, Monica Call, Peter Stumpf, and the late Professor Eleonore Schoenfeld. She earned her bachelor’s degree in cello performance from the University of Southern California where she was principal cellist of the USC Symphony, USC Chamber Orchestra, Young Musicians’ Foundation Debut Orchestra, and the American Youth Symphony, collaborating with artists such as John Williams, Yo-Yo Ma, Andrè Watts and Sir James Galway. She currently serves as principal cellist of the Orchestra at Temple Square. She has soloed in concert with the Utah Symphony, Utah Valley Symphony, Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, YMF Debut Orchestra, USC Symphony, and other local symphonies. Elizabeth has performed in most U.S. states, as well as in Canada, Italy, France, Great Britain, and Austria. Miss Willey has been teaching music lessons in Utah Valley and Southern California for 15 years. She is Suzuki trained and has attended and performed at Suzuki masterclasses, workshops, conferences and institutes all over the country as a teacher and as a student. Many of her former students have graduated from and are currently attending local universities with music scholarships. Elizabeth’s scale book, The Scale Trail Challenge, will soon be reprinted (2nd edition), as well as its sequels, Fingerboarding and Up to the Bridge which cover advanced scales, arpeggios, chords, theory and supplemental exercises for the cello. She will also be publishing a book later this year about growing up in and raising a Suzuki family. Sister Willey is recently returned from her LDS mission in Milan, Italy, and will also publish a book about her experiences there. When she isn’t playing music, teaching or writing, she enjoys training for marathons, reading great books, hiking, arranging music and cooking.
